I am often asked how I have so many ideas - where do I get my inspiration? I have to explain to people who don't know me that my brain generates an idea a minute, my entire life. I find myself having to rein it in more often than not. Since the soaping bug bit me, I find inspiration in everything. This week I am crafting a drum set themed handmade soap inspired by my awesome 14 year old who has persevered through their drum lessons during this pandemic. It's a hard for these kids - they should be hanging out, discovering who they are and finding their voices, but they're stuck at home. It's the right thing to do to stay safe, but that doesn't make it any easier!
I have learned so much about my child watching their music evolution. From hating the flute I made them start on and go through a year of band with, to definitely wanting and then immediately hating the guitar, then going from being ambiguous about the drums to a die-hard drummer with sweet skills. The frustration of teenage life in the pandemic is well suited for the slamming of the drums. You'd think it would be headache-inducing, but it's really heartwarming. When the drums are banging, they are finding themselves and losing themselves at the same time. Rock On kiddo. 🥰
I can't wait to cast a couple of my new drum soaps and send them to the awesome teachers at the Gorham School of Music. These folks are a small local music school. They are supportive and amazing at connecting with the kids and have worked really hard to help the kids and keep them engaged throughout this hard time. I can't say enough good things about them.
For the months of January and February 2021 whenever you buy one of my Rock On drum-themed handmade soaps I will donate $1 to Hungry for Music, which for over 25 years has been distributing musical instruments to students and teachers who want to play but can't afford an instrument. Not only will your purchase support my small business and get you some amazing soap, but you'll do some extra good too!
